Virginia - Original Song by Thirtysilver

Virginia - Original Song by Thirtysilver
A new song. This one mentions Edgar Allan Poe and certain detail from his life - such as the slow death of his wife from consumption - but it's not about Poe per se. Let's say it was inspired by his love for Virginia Clemm, his strange last days, and the tone and content of some of his work. It also references the Poe Toaster and Lewis Carroll. Noteworthy: my paternal grandmother's name is Virginia. ------------------------- I am King Upon the Water And across immortal sands Swing the bell for sweet Virginia Blood that blooms across her pallor, Drying dark in spitting tin Choked as oceans lay upon her Sunrise wasted On the dream of dying eyes And early graves Dig me faithless Phantoms, overawed By nothing but the name, Beautiful Virginia To surcease the fight for sorrow Sucking breaths of killing cold To collapse before Virginia Endless tintinnabulation Mourns across Plutonian shores Between writing desks and ravens Sunrise wasted On the dream of dying eyes And early graves ! Dig me faithless Phantoms, overawed By nothing but the name, Beautiful Virginia Like the roses three, which blacken On the hopeful cenotaph And the bones in bedrooms haunted I am borne away in tatters Just on loan from what blank god Fuels the bootless wars of genius
