Outstanding [Original 12 Version] - The Gap Band (1982)

"Outstanding" was a song originally performed by The Gap Band and written by member Raymond Calhoun. The song originally appeared on the group's platinum-selling 1982 album "Gap Band IV". It was one of their signature songs and biggest hits, reaching the number one spot on the US R&B Singles Chart in February 1983. The song also peaked at #24 on the Dance chart and made it to #51 on the Hot 100. "Outstanding" has been sampled frequently by hip-hop and R&B artists over the years, including Rob Base, Richie Rich, Ice Cube, Redman, Shaquille O'Neal, R. Kelly, Da Brat, The Notorious BIG, Jermaine Dupri, Blackstreet, Toni Braxton, Soul For Real, Ashanti, Beyoncé Knowles, Kid Rock, and many others. "Gap Band IV" was released in 1982 on Total Experience Records. The album reached #1 on the Black Albums chart and #14 on the Pop Albums chart. Contrary to its name, it was The Gap Band's sixth album. This was the first Gap Band album producer Lonnie Simmons released directly on his la! bel, Total Experience Records. The album was later reissued on CD by Mercury Records, Total Experience's parent company at the time. Thischannel is dedicated to all the great 'old school' R&B music I grew up with, the stuff that originally made me tap my feet and want to be a DJ. Funk, soul, disco, R&B, dance, hip-hop, pop . . . 60s, 70s, 80s . . . whatever you call it, it's all 'Old School' and it's all here!
